We Make Steel Wheels Shipping Simple
Garner Enterprises is a boutique transportation-solutions company with a Fortune 500 client roster. Why? We deliver simple answers to complex shipping problems faced by the shippers, distributors and buyers. Ease of administrative solutions is fundamental to running seamless supply chain distribution operation for our clients. There are increasing pressures to be more environmentally conscientious, reduce costs, improve service levels, reduce inventory levels, and balance the continually increasing price of fuel with budgets. Garner Enterprises meets these needs, while designing and managing creative solutions tailored to each client account. We overcome difficulties in network roadblocks.
Shipping on rail enables Clients to lower distribution costs while achieving decreased carbon emissions footprints and reducing road congestion within the populations that they serve. Clients have specific needs. Food commodities are a great example. Food, especially fresh produce, can be volatile and must be handled with care. These needs are often driven by seasonality and geography so the lanes and corridors frequently change demanding that new shipping patterns develop. Trucks have successfully met these needs for 60 years. The Garner Enterprises team assists clients to embrace the change from the trucking business model and demonstrates that rail alternatives can be equally as simple and effective.
Steel Wheels Accommodate!
The landscape in the marketplace that we are facing today is one of considerable complexity. Our highways are congested. Our travel times are increasing and our truck drivers are retiring faster than they are joining the ranks. Our youth is taking on jobs in sectors that did not exist 10, 20, 30 years ago. Our appetite for goods continues to grow. This growth imposes increasing strain on our supply chain networks, our road networks. How do we meet these challenges?
Let us take a moment to look at what has happened to our rail roads over the past few decades.
The North American love affair with rail is over a hundred years old.
By WWII railroads were running at peak levels, moving everything from people to iron, ore, smelt, apples and oranges. The end of the war however, told another story. Automobiles were fast becoming the rage throughout the United States and Canada. This led to an enormous spike in the development of road networks. The Interstate highway system in the USA and the 400 series of freeways in Canada were built. There was a shift away from rail transportation of both people and goods.
Long-haul trucks became integral to the fabric of our society. For the decades of the 50s, 60s, and 70s, rail networks declined. Rail spurs were systematically torn up, short-line railroads closed down and major lines were forced to merge to remain viable. The result was an ultimate shortage of rail miles left to service the growing needs of a rapidly growing population with a thirst for more goods from further-a-field, more exotic locals. The impact is being recognized today as more and more companies are reflecting and looking for alternative, efficient, cost effective and environmentally sustainable ways to manage their distribution networks. Rail transportation now has the opportunity to make a massive resurgence and this has become more newsworthy since the advent of 2010. The Warren Buffet purchase of the BNSF (Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway) made international headlines.
The rail resurgence is happening. Old rail networks are being redeveloped, injecting life and rejuvenating old rail spurs. Garner’s consultants can help your organization and warehousing facilities get spurs up to code.
Garner Enterprises makes rail accessible to our clients so that their organizations can enjoy and prosper from the benefits of rail’s resurgence. We break from traditional transportation models and work intimately with our clients to deliver customized solutions.
